E-mail clubs

Public E-mail Lists

Auto-responders

"The consumer is not a moron. She's your wife."    David Ogilvy

E-mail Clubs:-   are organizations that are specially dedicated to the email marketing industry.

These clubs have formed thousands of targeted opt-in email lists that you can subscribe to and advertise your product or service. Some are free to subscribe to with the condition that you give them permission to send you email messages related to the categories or topics that you are interested in. Others charge a small fee on a per month or per week basis to advertise your ad on a daily, weekly or monthly basis to their subscribers who are interested in your category, topic, or product.

Email clubs are good value because you can have your email message sent automatically to thousands of subscribers on a pre-set time basis without the time and effort normally required. For example: if you subscribe to an email club that sends your email to 100,000 targeted opt-in  mail recipients once a week; you are advertising on a weekly basis to that number of  pre-qualified leads automatically!

A word of caution, don't sign up for too many clubs at once, test a few out, see if they have value and also determine if they are an honest organization. As with all opt-in lists you can unsubscribe at any time if you wish to do so.

Public E-mail Lists:- are free lists of of targeted subscribers. There are hundreds of thousands of public mailing lists available directly related to your product or service. Public email lists are different to email clubs in that you must use your own email address. Public email lists are controlled by a moderator (the moderator heads the list.) The moderator starts a discussion by sending an email to all subscribers of that particular topic or category. Members can then respond to the moderator and express their comments, opinions and suggestions about the topic in question. Once the moderator receives all the responses from members, he forwards them on to all subscribers.

Public mailing lists can be moderated or un-moderated - If a list is moderated, then the moderator is entitled to screen the messages received from members, he can then forward all the messages himself.

If a list is un-moderated, then the moderator does not screen messages, but simply forwards them on using a "reflector".

To market your product in public mailing lists you need firstly to subscribe. There are also several rules that you need to abide by:

Your message should always be related to the topic of discussion. be careful with your wording - you don't want to present a blatant advertisement -  e.g. your intention may be  to inform members of what works for you in your business and what successes or disappointments you have had with specific marketing techniques!

Never blatantly advertise on these groups - public mailing lists are not intended for marketing purposes. Their purpose is to share share information and discuss specific topics. Because of this your email messages cannot be written as an ad. If you do breach the rules, then you will probably find yourself "blocked" from participating on that list.

If you're wondering how you are going to promote your product  without including an ad - simply "market" your product as if you were offering information about the particular topic in discussion. Start a topic of discussion yourself, once you have familiarized yourself with some of the subscribers and the list's protocols.

As with all opt-in lists you can unsubscribe at any time if you wish to do so.

Autoresponders:-  AKA- MailBots, Autobots, Auto-reply, Email-on-demand.

Autoresponders are an extremely useful email tool, because they alleviate the repetitive task of manually answering each individual  email you receive in response to your ads. They are convenient and will save you a lot of time. Not only won't you have to keep manually answering your email, with the same message,  you won't have to stay by your computer to ensure your email is answered in an acceptable time. The autoresponder automatically replies to the sender's email, within minutes.

What is an AutoResponder?

An AutoResponder is a mail server that automatically sends out a reply to the e-mail address that sent mail to it. It is generally run on an Internet Service Providers (ISP) system.

What features do AutoResponders have?

Generally most AutoResponders can handle thousands of requests per day and operate 24 hours a day seven days a week.

AutoResponders generally send out text only, however color, photos, wallpaper, animation, audio and even video - InfogeneratorPro is an excellent example.

AutoResponders allow providers to immediately send information to users even if the user does not have full graphical internet access.

Preparing Your Information or Advertising Content

Prepare your information in text format (ASCII). If using a word processor, save in text format. Recommendations are to keep information less than 10k in size (10240 characters), but larger files are acceptable. Even though some AutoResponders can handle larger files, some e-mail services and users systems block larger files, or require downloading as attachments. If a user has to work too hard to receive your information, they may not bother. If you have a lot of information, you may want to consider multiple responders. Format the text to be no wider than 70 characters (preferably 55 characters or less). This will avoid word wrapping problems and be easier to view on the users system.

Restricted Content and Activity

Virtually all AutoResponders do not allow pornographic, sexually explicit, racist, offensive and inflammatory information to be used on their systems. Pyramid schemes, illegal type MLM scams or chain letters are also not usually allowed. Legitimate MLM marketing programs should not be a problem, in fact there is one run on a MLM basis.
Spamming (mass unsolicited e-mailing), to e-mail lists (listserv/majordomo), or usenet newsgroups, is generally not allowed and may result in cancellation of your Responder account without refund. Some AutoResponder providers are Bulk email friendly. If you have a bulk email friendly email account, contact them directly about their autoresponder. It's acceptable to include your AutoResponder address in a reasonable size 'Signature' section of e-mail messages you post to most relevant newsgroups, and mail lists.

I highly recommend you have one, if not, multiple autoresponders to help streamline and automate your business. Multiple accounts from one service is a preferred option. Autoresponders will be working for your business, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days of the year! There are many autoresponders available at no cost, however, ensure you select the ones that will allow up to at least six follow-up messages, if not more. Statistics show that many potential prospects do not respond to your follow-up advertising until the fourth message, or more!

Don't use your primary email address when submitting ads as you will be bombarded by autoresponder replies. There are several options you can take regarding incoming mail: set up filters to sort your mail, redirect all incoming mail to your "trash" folder or scan each response and look for useful replies, then bulk delete the unwanted ones.

Autoresponders are generally easy to set up but it will take a little time and thought to arrange your messages in a logical sequence and to get your ad content down pat. Most free autoresponder services will require you to place their ad/banner on your page in return for their service, or, for a small fee you can have their advertising removed.

I suggest you don't use the same headline on each of your autoresponses, if a prospect doesn't react to your first headline and ad, they certainly won't for the remainder if they're identical. So put a lot of thought into the headlines, content and sequence. The size of your ad should be considered carefully, recommendations are that your first ad should  be no longer than 10 lines, following responses can be longer and more detailed. As you progress through your responses, throw in more information, freebies,  offers, bonuses, time limitations, reminders etc. Your tail-end messages should be brief and to the point e.g. "just a friendly reminder' or "I haven't heard from you?" etc.

All autoresponder services provide information on your reply as to how the prospect can remove themselves from receiving further mailings.

Autoresponders can be set to send a response in your selected time sequence: e.g. one response sent immediately, one the following day, another three days after the first and so on. Don't bombard your prospect with messages sent on a daily basis, but the first three days are critical - stretch out the time frame after that so they have time to consider your offer. They're another extremely useful and effective marketing tool that will save you a lot of time by sending out your repeat advertising automatically.

Autoresponders can also be used effectively to follow-up on a reader or prospect who has shown an interest in your offer or made an inquiry -  a thank you and comment that you will email them personally as soon as possible will go a long way with some readers.

The Internet is an impersonal forum at times and you will probably never get to meet any of your downline, readers, and prospects, so it pays to add a personal touch and remain courteous at all times.

Bonus!..... if you are considering setting up your own mailing list - your customizable autoresponder/s  also works as a web-based list server and automatically captures the  e-mail address of the person responding to your ad and allows for bulk mailing. This, of course is an awesome tool when it comes to building your database of pre-qualified prospects and putting your entire sales process on autopilot. (important! do not bulk mail to others unless you have specific permission to do so, otherwise you could be accused of spamming!)
